Flax Paper Presentation with Regine Neumann at Belfast Print Workshop
Tuesday 15 August, 7 – 8pm
Short tow, a by-product of processing retted flax into a spinnable fibre, can be made into paper pulp using a Hollander beater. In this presentation you will learn about preparing and processing flax and linen fibres to make paper pulp from visiting fibre artist Regine Neumann.
We will talk about the basic equipment needed to make paper and look at various handmade sheets of flax paper, including paper from TidekettlePaper in Berwick upon Tweed (Lucy Baxandall), Pulp Paper Arts Workshop in Glasgow (Alison Newman), Paper-foundation in Burneside, Cumbria, and artist Cecilia Stephens, Portaferry.
Participants will make a small paper sample to take home. If you have, please bring a cookie cutter or an empty tuna can.
